How to Identify Silver Coins

Here are a few quick tips to spot pre-1965 silver coins:

• Check the date – Any dime, quarter, or half dollar dated 1964 or earlier is 90% silver.
  
• Look at the edge – Silver coins don’t show the orange/brown “copper sandwich” edge seen on modern clad coins.
  
• Listen for the ring – Silver coins make a higher-pitched ringing sound when gently tapped compared to modern clad coins.
